The Opportunity
- Manage civil litigation matters from initial client consultation through settlement, trial, arbitration, or resolution.
- Develop case strategies, assess claims, and advise clients on legal options and next steps.
- Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests, legal correspondence, and other case documents.
- Take and defend depositions, conduct hearings, and argue motions in court.
- Handle mediations and settlement negotiations while advocating for favorable client outcomes.
- Work with construction professionals, experts, and consultants to evaluate technical issues and strengthen cases.
- Prepare matters for trial, arbitration, and evidentiary proceedings.
- Maintain consistent communication with clients and provide clear updates throughout the litigation process.
- Work collaboratively with senior attorneys while taking meaningful ownership of assigned cases.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Active Virginia bar admission required; Maryland and/or D.C. admission is a plus.
- 3–5 years of civil litigation experience, including meaningful exposure to trials, hearings, depositions, and motion practice.
- Strong legal research, writing, negotiation, and courtroom advocacy skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage cases and client relationships independently.
- Highly organized with strong judgment, communication, and attention to detail.
- Collaborative, motivated, and comfortable working in a fast-paced litigation environment.
Preferred: Construction, real estate, commercial litigation, or related experience, although construction law experience is not required.
